Cruze Hatchback Performance Upgrades

Chevrolet Performance seemed to have put some upgrades on the Cruze Hatchback and let some journalists drive them around at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Nevada.

Some key bits that were added to the Cruze Hatch include:

-New springs and dampers (10mm drop in ride-height)
-Upgraded brakes
-Cold air intake system for optimum engine performance
-Revised exhaust system giving a sportier note

Could this be the beginning of what will ultimately result in an SS ? Or is this just about all we'll really get ?

I'll be interested in how those brakes are since with most new cars I find a need to upgrade the pads since I do some aggressive street driving which also helps on the track for hard braking entering turns. But hopefully that's all it will need since sticky pads are cheap enough to come by.

I did see that the Camaros had an big brake upgrade kit that were 4 piston up front but they didn't say anything about the Cruze. I can't imagine having to put 4pots upfront on the Cruze

Any idea how much these upgrades are going to cost if we can get them individually ?

No idea but I'm pretty sure it's going to be at a price where it's more feasible to go aftermarket like most other oem performance parts.

From my experience a setup like that could easily run you $2000. So, that's my ballpark here and very realistic if you were to price it out for any vehicle in this segment or even slightly higher/lower. Focus hatch should be a good reference point.

That is a reasonable price for an aftermarket build whilst being budget conscious. Very possible. Now what would the pricing be like from a manufacturer??

Similar price, it doesn't change by much. But that's if you happen to be looking at pricing from a well known reputable brand selling these and a car maker. If you go for budget brands, taking off about 40-50% is possible, maybe more. All depends on what you want and your budget.

That's more than reasonable for a cold air intake system (assuming there's substantial performance gains), and improvement to the drive dynamics. Right now we're still waiting for the SS, but this could be an alternative for those who can't wait.

On these small motor applications, an intake and exhaust doesn't really amount to anywhere close to substantial performance gains. But it does give you better throttle response, a bit more oomph, and some efficiency.
